Environmental Learning Spreads Across Chicago The Landscape Architecture Foundation's (LAF) President Bob Bristol was the first to bring LASN the news that Chicago school districts want to replicate the LAF's DuSable/Farren Outdoor Learning Center (see LASN, September 1995) at every school in the district. To date LAF has raised over $1 million in materials and services in support of the inner-city project in the poorest neighborhood in the nation. The school district will reportedly fund the remainder. However, in the face of the Chicago Bears' sudden intention to relocate to Indiana, the Chicago Mayor has twice postponed an announcement to grant $150K to the expansion program. During the course of the project, ASLA members have jumped to tell LASN about positive developments in the project, including LAF Programs Coordinator Peter Kirsch, who recently commented that his involvement in the project has been an enriching and fulfilling experience: "[My involvement] 6 -7 days per month this past year has been the best professional experience of my life."
