On April 20, 2002, the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) installed a Science Garden Life Lab at the Encinal School in Atherton, our second in two years. Our local chapter believes if the youth of today were taught our field at an early age, it would foster a continuation of our industry for the next generations. With the help from 20 volunteers, Committee chairman Dale vonDohren, Landmark Landscapes, and Craig Rapp, Dynamic Landscape installed 20 planter boxes at a location of the school that had been unused for 10 years. Students and teachers will now use the boxes to plant and grow gardens with the guidance of various curriculums and learn about our ecosystem. After the general layout by a crew from Landmark Landscapes, a crew from Blue Spruce Landscape drilled 230 one-foot holes a week prior to the big day. The irrigation supplies for the new drip system and a large load of lumber was delivered and we were ready to go. With the help of great weather and energetic people the day started. Craig Rapp led a group of volunteers from Dynamic Landscape, Gachina Landscape management on the irrigation installation. Wood assembly lines were set up in different areas for cutting, drilling and bolting. Members and employee?EUR??,,????'???s from Person?EUR??,,????'???s Landscape, The Village Gardner, Special Garden?EUR??,,????'???s, Land Escapes, Colony Landscape and Green Acres Landscaping all worked together to create the largest redwood planter box assembly line witnessed in San Mateo County. A sense of pride and satisfaction was felt as the project was completed. We knew that with a concentrated effort of the many talented people present on the job, we had completed a couple days of work in eight hours.
