The city of Denver is accelerating its water conservation goals by 35 years. Mayor John Hickenlooper focused in his State of the City address on preserving resources for future generations. He identified water conservation as a top priority.
Hickenlooper vowed to reduce water use in the city by 22 percent in the next decade by fostering a new water conservation ethic and to meet the city's original 2050 goals by 2015. He said the city would employ state-of-the-art water efficiency practices in buildings, park irrigation and on other property. All city departments will be required to develop 10-year water budgets, and the city will issue an annual water conservation report card to track progress.
