In October 2018, Cornell University, located in Ithaca, New York, completed work on a new walking trail that features various sustainable landscape projects located around the campus. The "Sustainable Landscapes Trail" is part of the university's goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2035, and does so by promoting awareness of ecological works on the campus.

Reportedly, the trail was a three-year project that was first proposed by professor Nina Bassuk from the School of Integrative Plant Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The "Land Focus Team" is a group of about 10 graduate students and faculty within the President's Sustainable Campus Committee.

"We decided to develop the trail to visualize the environmental benefits that are inherent in some of the landscape practices we use," Bassuk said in an interview with The Sun, the news agency at Cornell.

A map of the trail that highlights all 19 environmental stops and provides in-depth information on each is available on the sustainable campus's website (https://www.sustainablecampus.cornell.edu/initiatives/sustainable-landscapes-trail). Each of the stops also has a QR code that, when scanned with a QR reader, will pull up a "descriptive webpage about the individual project and how it contributes to Cornell's sustainability goals," stated Bassuk.
