Reflecting the improving economy in general and the increase in construction specifically, cement consumption in 2014 throughout various market segments grew by as much as 26 percent.

Cement consumption in 2014 made good gains in most market segments according to the Portland Cement Association's year-end survey. Of the 18 segments reported on, 13 saw increases of more than five percent year over year.

Leading the growth was roller-compacted concrete paving at 26 percent. Residential building segments also tracked well, such as the 19 percent rise in the use of cement for concrete brick and block, and manufactured stone.
