The long-suffering California construction industry got a dose of good news, as its October-to-November jobs gains — 7,800 positions — was the largest increase among all states and boosted California’s own employment picture:
Associated General Contractors of America’s analysis of nationwide employment data by state found that California had the largest monthly increase in construction employment. Next was New Jersey and New York with 4,500.
AGCA noted that it’s encouraging how the number of states adding jobs year-over-year was higher in November than at any time since February 2008. However, the data also made clear that these gains were as spotty as they were tenuous.”
Beacon Economics’ review of state employment trends by industry found construction leading California’s November hiring. Those 7,800 new jobs were followed by information industries (5,200); professional and business services (3,000); government (3,000); and education/health services (2,900). Construction needs to lead the way to recovery, especially for the landscape industry.
According to Beacon, this is the second consecutive month of employment growth for the construction sector, but only the fourth month of gains in 2010.
