In an effort to reduce air pollution and garner more visits to national parks, BMW of North America recently donated 100 charging stations. The first electric charging station was installed at Thomas Edison National Historical Park in April 2017. Since then, more than 90 charging stations have been installed in and near national parks. The project focused on factors such as the distance from nearby charging stations, natural and cultural landscape considerations, and the strength of the electric vehicle (EV) market. Due to the collaboration of the National Park Foundation, National Park Service (NPS), Department of Energy and BMW of North America, electric vehicles have become a travel option when visiting national parks. National parks with charging stations: Massachusetts Cape Cod National Seashore New Jersey Thomas Edison National Historical Park Pennsylvania Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Gettysburg National Military Park Florida Biscayne National Park Everglades National Park Big Cypress National Preserve Arizona Grand Canyon National Park California Death Valley National Park Channel Island National Park Golden Gate National Recreation Area Washington Mount Rainier National Park Olympic National Park National Park Service Deputy Director P. Daniel Smith stated, "While our treasured landscapes offer familiar vistas time after time, the automobile has changed greatly, and parks want to meet the needs of our visitors who use electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Through this joint effort between BMW of North America, the Department of Energy, and the National Park Foundation, electric vehicle drivers will have more places to charge the car while recharging themselves with nature and parks."
