This money is in addition to the already over $1 billion that has been allocated to cleaning up pollution throughout the country.

On October 18th, the Department of the Interior announced that $10 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law would go to 17 different sites around the United States to address pollution issues and protect their natural environments. The new awards announced today are a portion of the $70 million dollar investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law made earlier in 2022.

This week is the Department of the Interior's "Legacy Pollution Week" and as such the focus is on continuing to address legacy pollution problems found in communities throughout the country, but also to honor the progress that has been made so far.

Secretary Deb Haaland applauded the Law, saying, "President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is the largest investment in cleaning up legacy pollution in American history. At the Department of the Interior, we are using every tool at our disposal to support multiple programs to clean up these legacy environmental hazards, advance environmental justice, support good paying jobs, and safeguard our lands for future generations."
