The old bridges will make way for new concrete spans over the next 14 months.

You?EUR??,,????'???ve no doubt heard the story or joke about an enterprising fellow ?EUR??,,????'??selling?EUR??,,????'?? the Brooklyn Bridge. According to Hoaxes and Scams: A Compendium of Deceptions by Carl Sifakis, at the turn of the 19th Century one George Parker did sell the Brooklyn Bridge?EUR??,,????'??+more than once. He also sold ?EUR??,,????'??? the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Statue of Liberty and Grant’s Tomb!

This thought came to mind, a bit erroneously, admittedly, when we heard a subcontractor, the Axis Crane Co. (503-572-5793) is handling the demolition and sale of materials of two aging timber trestle spans across Tumwater and Valley creeks on Eighth Street in Port Angeles, Oregon.

The concrete bollards that support the bridge railings ($75 each) and the structural timber (excepting the rotted parts, of course) are on the block. About 90 percent of the bridge materials will be recycled. The old bridges will make way for new concrete spans over the next 14 months.

The bollards are said to be in good shape, but they are 70 years old and some have cracks, not to mention there?EUR??,,????'???s not guaranteed the bollards are going to come off in one piece. Those bollards not sold will be donated, as they are popular in ornamental landscaping.
