Partnerships with these local, regional, and national associations elevates The Landscape Expo and provides great benefits for attendees. Take a look at some of the highlights from the groups in attendance at TLE 2024. ![]() Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) For the first time, TLE partnered with PGMS to put on a series of nine seminars with experts from across the country to speak on a wide range of topics. Brooke Sammons, a Landscape Architect for Purdue University Grounds Department, highlighted practices for reducing vandalism in landscapes and ways to determine staffing needs with a thorough landscape inventory and modified APPA levels. Donald Bottger from the San Diego Convention Center spoke on respiratory and fall protection. Brandon Haley, the Vice President of Grounds Management for SSC Services for Education, shared ways to develop successful IPM programs and the process for becoming PGMS-certified. Charity Madrid-Torres from the University of Arizona focused on OSHA compliance with seminars on safety in groundskeeping practices and recordkeeping. To round out the set, Francisco Sicilia of Rainbow Ecoscience revealed new ways to use plant growth regulators for landscape management. PGMS also sponsored the Casino Party on Wednesday night that was a great time for attendees and exhibitors alike! ![]() California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) Over the last 15 years, the CLCA has been a constant presence at The Landscape Expo with booths and members speaking in one of the many seminars offered. This year, may CLCA members were represented, including VP of Membership Sal Hernandez in the Future of Landscape Panel focusing on ways to attract and retain employees. Tom Sweeney, the 2024 CLCA President, participated in another panel focused on the current state of turf in the landscape. ![]() Western Chapter International Society of Aboriculture (WCISA) ISA members had the option to choose between 15 seminars for their CEUs, from understanding outdoor water efficiency regulations in California with Brandon Burgess to an in-depth exposition of soil health and drought support with Wister Dorta For the 14th straight year, the WCISA had a booth at The Landscape Expo where current and potential members could learn about the society. ![]() Arboleros Right next to the WCISA booth, its Spanish-speaking counterpart was also present, connecting with attendees and promoting classes and events for the community of ISA members who only speak Spanish. Former Arboleros President Brandon Elrod led a seminar in the Tree Academy on growing a tree care business. This was the fifth time the Arboleros have attended The Landscape Expo since 2019. ![]() Hispanic Arborists Association The Hispanic Arborists Association was ideally located at the TLE Tree Academy for the third year in a row, where seminar and expo attendees were able to learn about HAA resources for bilingual support, certification, and training for teams with Spanish-speaking members. HAA Founder and Executive Director Jose Mercado taught four seminars in the Tree Academy focusing on various kinds of tree safety and pruning practices. ![]() American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA) AGZA also returned for their third year with The Landscape Expo, promoting their certifications and education initiatives for the overall improvement of quality of life for communities and the operators who maintain their landscapes. Dan Mabe, founder of AGZA, participated in the Future of Landscape Panel Series in a discussion on Robotic Landscape Equipment. TLE attendees were also given the opportunity to test out AGZA-certified equipment at the Equipment Demonstration area with names like STIHL, ECHO, and Greenworks Commercial. ![]() University of California ?EUR" Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) UC ANR is a state program and research organization that focuses on empowering local communities and their youth with knowledge and experience in agriculture. UC Davis and UC ANR professor Roger Baldwin, Ph.D. taught one of the most popular seminars at the whole show, focusing on how groundskeepers can manage gophers and ground squirrels. UC Cooperative Extension researcher and advisor Beatriz Nobua-Behrmann, Ph.D. also led a seminar on protecting trees from devastating pests present in Southern California?EUR(TM)s urban forests. ![]() University of California ?EUR" Integrated Pest Management (UC IPM) A division of UC ANR, UC IPM is a stat program that helps everyone ?EUR" from homeowners to professional pest managers ?EUR" to prevent and solve pest problems in a way that has the least number of unintended effects on people and the surrounding environment. Beyond their booth, UC IPM writer and editor Belinda Messenger-Sikes presented research findings on using organic herbicides as well as alternatives to glyphosate in the landscape in one of the seminars. ![]() Association of Compost Producers (ACP) Over the last decade, the California Chapter of the ACP has been a regular feature of The Landscape Expo, bringing together public and private organizations for the purpose of increasing the quality of composed being produced and used in California. ![]() Green Industry Hall of Fame (GIHOF) The Green Industry Hall of Fame once more made an appearance at The Landscape Expo Wednesday night Reception with their signature line-up of portraits honoring individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the Green Industry.
