Diane Jones Allen of DesignJones, LLC and University of Texas, Arlington received her nomination in Service from the ASLA Council of Fellows Executive Committee. Through her current professional practice, she works pro bono with communities in New Orleans still recovering from Katrina. Through her academic position at the University of Texas Arlington, she worked with communities in North Texas and provided service opportunities to the next generation of landscape architects.

At the Houston Gulf Coast Section's Casino Night, members played to help raise funds for the Scholarship Foundation.

The chapter sent their congratulations out to National Olmsted Scholar Finalist Adriana Hernandez-Aguirre of Texas A&M University whose project promoted access to high-quality green space within Las Colonias, which are informal settlements along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Representatives of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Section attended UT-Arlington's Student ASLA November meeting where they shared information, explained the benefits of ASLA membership after graduation, and talked about how the chapter can be a better resource for the students.

Profile: The Texas Chapter of the American Society Landscape Architects was established to promote the practice of landscape architecture and advanced the profession through advocacy, education, communication, and fellowship. In 1959 the Texas Chapter of ASLA was first established as a larger regional chapter known as the Southwest Chapter. It was not until 1978 that the current Texas Chapter was created. Texas ASLA business is conducted on two levels: the chapter and the section. The chapter level deals with issues that govern the whole state, while the section level deals with local issues and events. There five sections are: Central Texas Section, Dallas/Fort Worth Section, Houston/Gulf Coast Section, South Texas Section and West Texas Section.

At the 2019 Texas ASLA Conference this April, all the professional award recipients for this year were announced. These winners represent outstanding examples of projects that contribute to the quality of life for all citizens of Texas, plus exceptional projects located outside of the state that were executed by Texas Chapter Members. The Classic Award this year went to the Dallas Arboretum Court of the Giant Toads by SWA, in Dallas. The Student Award winners represented three universities: Texas A&M, Texas Tech and the University of Texas-Arlington. For a complete list of winners: https://www.texasasla.org/

Local and national all-stars, including Peter Walker, Brent Brown, James Burnett, Christine Ten Eyck, Mary Margaret Jones, Chuck McDaniel, and Mark Lamster, were featured at the Second Wave of Modernism IV: Making Space within Place conference and related events in Dallas, October 3-5, 2019. A daylong conference, sponsored by The Cultural Landscape Foundation, Texas Chapter ASLA, the Dallas Architecture Forum and others, was held on Friday, October 4. The conference examined the city's legacy of innovation, from projects completed in Dallas' Arts District over the past 35 years to four new downtown parks and the 10,000-acre Trinity River Project, which would be the largest urban park in America.
