ASLA Members Call Government to Focus Biodiversity

The ASLA Calls on the National Government to Commit to the Global Goal for Nature by 2030

The ASLA calls on national governments to significantly increase their investment and support for the conservation movement over the next decade.

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), is urging national governments taking part in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Montr???(C)al, Canada, to commit to even greater global conservation and biodiversity goals than they are talking about. The ASLA is pushing for protecting at least 30 percent of land, sea, and freshwater ecosystems by 2030. The plan is referred to as 30 x 2030.

Before the CBD, the ASLA had previously joined 340 other organizations in signing the Global Goal for Nature: Nature Positive by 2030. This is where the 30 x 2030 plan stems from. The ASLA also made a commitment to this plan in their recently released Climate Action Plan. It is designed to guide landscape architects towards restoring ecosystems and protecting biodiversity on a global scale.

"In Montr???(C)al, now is the time for a global agreement to address the biodiversity crisis and increase protections for nature. Biodiversity underpins all natural systems on Earth. Protecting our remaining biodiversity and bolstering and restoring ecosystems are critical to our long-term survival," said ASLA President Emily O'Mahoney, FASLA.
