American Forests and USDA Partner to Improve Reforestation

Partnership Propels Climate-resilient Reforestation
by Staff

American Forests and USDA partner in a $20 million deal to rapidly scale climate-adapted reforestation.

American Forests, considered to be the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization, has sealed a $20 million agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, which will focus on climate-adapted reforestation. This collaboration, fueled by the historic REPLANT Act, aims to facilitate the Forest Service in orchestrating swift and scalable reforestation across millions of acres ravaged by fire and degradation over the next half-decade.

The REPLANT Act, which removed funding caps on Forest Service reforestation, allows American Forests to play a pivotal role in assessing, prioritizing, and planning reforestation efforts. The comprehensive strategy addresses gaps in climate-resilient restoration planning, amplifies nursery production, expands the forestry workforce, and enhances seed collection capabilities.

Jad Daley, President and CEO of American Forests, expressed optimism in leading REPLANT Act implementation through this strategic partnership. Daley affirms, "Together, we will accelerate climate-smart reforestation across national forests, helping to restore the health of these priceless public lands."
