Conceived and developed by Earl and Beverly McDougal, who, according to the estate's Web site, have deep family roots in this area of northwest San Diego County, the site is host to over 300 individual events a year ranging from symphony and jazz concerts, to community-wide special event celebrations to weddings and receptions.

In 2012, the McDougal family decided to open the estate to the public to view the nearly 20,000 Proven Winners and Proven Selections plants.

The next scheduled public event is called Jazz and Wine in the Gardens and will take place on September 21 from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. More information is available here.
