Applications for the LAF Research Grant in Honor of Deb Mitchell are open until December 1st, 2024. This grant provides $25,000 to one research project that will be carried out within a 12- to 18-month period, starting Fall 2025. According to the LAF website, "the research must generate knowledge and insights relevant to the practice of design in order to increase landscape architecture's capacity and impact." This focus honors the work of Deb Mitchell, a Landscape Architect and ASLA Fellow who spent much of her efforts supporting research into the professional aspects of practicing landscape architecture.

In the past, grant recipients have investigated ways Landscape Architects can advance fair labor practices through intentional material procurement (Noriko Maeda, PLA and Franca Trubiano, PhD, 2024-2026), the impact of nature-based solutions on reducing extreme heat (Keenan Gibbons, PLA and Salvador Lindquist, 2023-2025), and the essential factors for designing intergenerational community spaces that promote healthy aging (Sinan Zhong, PhD and Chanam Lee, PhD, 2022-2024).
