2018 North Carolina ASLA Student Awards
NC State Sweeps Awards

North Carolina State University (NCSU), located Raleigh, N.C., swept this year's NCASLA student awards. NCSU is one of three North Carolinian universities with an accredited landscape architecture program, the others being North Carolina A&T State University and Wake Technical Community College.

Four students awards were recently presented at the North Carolina American Society of Landscape Architect's (NCASLA) Conference Awards Luncheon, located at the Durham Convention Center in Durham, N.C.

This was the fifth consecutive year the honors were awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who contributed to the profession with their research, and attended an accredited landscape architecture college or university located in N.C.

Receiving a merit award was "Uncovering Forgotten Landscapes," a case study by a North Carolina State University (NCSU) graduate team that consisted of: John Ring, Madalyn Baldwin, Mengxi Cao, Yaxuan Wang and Tim Fico. The project offers future environmental revitalization proposals for the town of New Bern, N.C.

Also winning a merit award was "The Gold Standard: Urban Renewal Through Intentional Infill + Design" by a NCSU graduate student team that consisted of Aline de Meto Nascimento, Anna Grace Fitzgerald and Bryan Maxell. The team worked with city planners, economists and government officials to formulate a multifaceted plan to alleviate the economic and social problems faced by Goldsboro, N.C.

"AGRITECH/TURE: Closing the Nutrient Cycle Loop of the Neuse River Basin + Sustainably Revitalizing a Rural City" won the student honor award. This submission was also from a NCSU graduate team that consisted of Adeline Lerner, Simon Gregg, Andrew Harrett, Sarah Johnson and James Popin.

Lastly, receiving the award of excellence was "Brunswick Conservation & Land Planning Study," which focused on an 842-acre project site in New Bruinswick, N.C., and was submitted by the NCSU Coastal Dynamics Studio.
