WAS teamed with Copiah-Lincoln Community College and WGK Engineers to convert a road into a large pedestrian corridor and plaza that connects groupings of historic dormitories and classroom buildings. The pedestrian corridor has abundant landscaping and hardscape beautification components. The college received a Transportation Alternatives Program grant of $1 million dollars for the construction of this project.

Foley Centennial Plaza, Foley, Alabama

The city of Foley, Alabama was founded January 8, 1915. WAS Design helped the city celebrate its centennial with a remodeling of the town plaza. WAS Design served as the prime consultant and designer of a 52- foot clock bell tower, along with decorative brick paving, seat/donor walls, accent lighting, landscape and irrigation. The firm also participated in the schematic design for future streetscape improvements along West Jessamine Avenue, which is on axis with the plaza.

Fallen Heroes Memorial, Mobile, Alabama

WAS had the honor of designing and constructing the newest memorial to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. The Fallen Heroes Memorial honors those from Alabama who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the Iraqi War and the War on Terror. Every element of the monument and plaza honors and thanks them. The hexagonal black granite centerpiece is decorated with the five branches of the U.S. Military. The two towers at the rear of the monument represent the World Trade Center. All the details were scrupulously designed, down to the materials and colors.

Holiday Inn Resort, Pensacola, Florida

For this Holiday Inn Resort, WAS Design was called upon to create a relaxing outdoor oasis. WAS designed the pool amenities, the meticulous paving, landscape and turtle-friendly lighting. The large leisure pool connects to a "lazy river," spa and kid's pool, replete with waterfall and a nearby palapa bar.

Pensacola International Airport – Covered Walkway, Pensacola, Florida

WAS Design worked as the prime consultant for a covered walkway at Pensacola International Airport to connect the newly constructed Hyatt Place Hotel (also a WAS project). The design developed an elegant solution to a highly constrained project that included numerous underground obstacles and four different overhead requirements. WAS also provided construction observation services and was very involved throughout the construction of this complex project.

Founded by Chad Watkins, Jared Acy and Troy Strunk, WAS opened its doors in 2005 in Gulf Shores, and soon expanded to three offices. WAS has six RLAs, three landscape designers, one CADD operator, one graphic designer and clerical staff. In 2015, WAS Design merged with CSA Group of Mobile, a landscape architecture firm founded in 1959 with a strong history of military planning and design. WAS believes landscape architecture is about creating a sense of place to enhance people's lives.

As seen in LASN magazine, October 2016.
