The Architerra Group, Inc.
Littleton, Colo.

The Architerra Group is a landscape architectural and planning firm with seven employees, three of whom are licensed landscape architects. Dean Pearson, FASLA, PLA, and Mark Taylor, ASLA, PLA are the principals; Lesanne Weller, ASLA, PLA, is an associate. By design, all of their work is within the public realm throughout the Front Range and in the Rocky Mountain West. They are devoted to public sector work; that devotion is underscored by their award winning projects and loyal client base. For over 15 years, they have been creative designers with highly technical abilities that allow them to translate big ideas into constructible, functional, maintainable, and beautiful spaces.

Cherry Creek Regional Trail, Confluence Park, Denver to Franktown, Colo.

One of the most important regional trails along the Colorado Front Range is the Cherry Creek Regional Trail. The trail connects two state parks, several regional parks, recreation centers, golf courses, schools, residential neighborhoods, regional shopping centers and local connector trails. From the headwaters in Castlewood Canyon, the trail travels 42 miles through several jurisdictions and connects to the South Platte River Trail in downtown Denver. To date, Architerra has designed 28 miles of the trail, including six pedestrian bridges, four trailheads, numerous restroom/comfort stations, and pocket parks along the corridor. The trail accommodates pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. Architerra also developed sign standards for the trail corridor, including a logo and brand identity seen on map panels and wayfinding signage.

Simpson Mine Park, Lafayette, Colorado

This project began as a typical neighborhood park for the Old Town neighborhood. After extensive public input the park became a one-of-a-kind gathering space accessible to all residents. Architerra worked with the community to design more artful play elements, which were implemented by a local sculptor. Lafayette's mining history provided design inspiration. There are custom entry monuments with stone inlays carved with mining images; allées with spring blooming pear trees; stone seating; custom paving; and natural boulders. The park design received the President's Award of Excellence by ASLA Colorado in 2009.

East-West Regional Trail, Douglas County, Colo.

Architerra designed this 28-mile long tail that will eventually connect the Cherry Creek Regional Trail in Parker to the Colorado Trail in Douglas County. Approximately 20 miles of the trail have been constructed, a combination of crusher fines trail in more developed areas and natural surface single-track trail in the backcountry. Architerra's work included several trailheads, overlooks, underpasses, pedestrian bridges, sculpted concrete low-water crossings, drainage improvements, signage and landscape restoration. The project won design awards from ASLA Colorado and the National Association of County Parks and Recreational Officials.

Westminster Center Park, Westminster, Colorado

Westminster Center Park is located across the street from Westminster City Hall. This much loved park references its sister city, Westminster, England. A custom paved plaza reflects the London street grid and is home to the River Thames water feature. The classic Peter Pan story is the design inspiration, which includes Neverpeak Mountain, Captain Hook's pirate ship, Neverwood Forest, the Darling's home, and Big Ben play features.
