Ohio ASLA Chapter
Looking over the past year, the chapter has had many things to be excited about. It successfully hosted three state-wide events and over 15 section events. Here are just some of the highlights from 2011.
For National Landscape Architecture Month, OCASLA worked with Great Lakes Publishing to print an article in the April 2011 issue of Ohio Magazine that focused on the profession of Landscape Architecture in Ohio. The article highlighted the 2010 OCASLA award winners and provided an opportunity for local firms to advertise within the magazine. This publication reaches over 407,000 readers within the state. The chapter established a continuing partnership with Great Lakes Publishing as part of its larger public relations strategy.
The annual meeting was held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus on May 12. Attendees had the opportunity to visit with over 20 vendors, participate in three morning educational sessions and peruse the downtown Columbus vicinity on four dynamic tours. This annual meeting had the highest attendance rate in recent years!
The 7th Annual Golf Outing took place on Aug. 12 at Chapel Hill Golf Course, with more than 60 golfers and sponsors attending. A total of $1,250 will be donated to the Student Chapter ASLA at the Knowlton School of Architecture at Ohio State University to help them begin their programming for the 2011-2012 school year. On Aug. 17, 11 volunteers in Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton participated in the nationwide Landscape Architecture Public Awareness Campaign in an effort to educate the general public about Landscape Architecture.
OCASLA hosted its 3rd Annual Gala and Awards Ceremony in the OSU Urban Arts Space in Columbus on Nov. 4. Nine professional and two student award winners were honored for their achievements. It was a lively evening of music, art and celebration of landscape architecture.
