The Wisconsin ASLA Chapter hosted the 17th Annual Advocacy Summit on September 8-10 in Milwaukee. Representatives from more than 30 chapters came together to discuss politics, legislature, new opportunities, and ways to improve advocacy efforts. Attendees, along with Wisconsin State Senator LaTonya Johnson and a staff member from U.S. Senator Ron Johnson's office, toured the Menomonee Valley, a formerly unused site that was transformed with a green stormwater system, riverbank restoration, and a park. A panel discussion on licensure threats and advocacy provided a forum for peer-to-peer advice on how to run an effective advocacy campaign. The Wisconsin Chapter's lobbyist presented tips on how to hire and work with a lobbyist. Members are encouraged to visit https://asla.org/GovernmentAffairs.aspx for toolkits and other resources to carry out an effective advocacy program.
