St. Louis, Missouri
by Planning Design Studio

The School & Corporate Campus Issue of Landscape Architect and Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. Weissman Headquarters is one of several great projects we are excited to showcase on LandscapeArchitect.com.

A network of pedestrian paths from across the campus intersects at the courtyard, establishing its role as a central hub for organized events and gatherings. Intentional green space and contemporary water features provide moments of relaxation, while the expansive pavilion and variety of seating options create a comfortable, engaging environment that encourages people to interact with the space.

The landscape was designed to contrast the large scale of the warehouse buildings by adding warmth and a sense of human scale. Native plantings, stone accents, and site furnishings soften the tall concrete walls, while the memorial rose garden creates a smaller, intimate gathering space.

With prominent detention basins, the project team viewed these required infrastructure elements as opportunities to add life and functionality to the campus. The basins feature layered plantings that enhance the landscape with color, texture, and seasonal interest, complemented by large boulders and stone cobbles that add structure and a natural feel. A modern bridge spans one of the basins, connecting the courtyard directly to the entry plaza. This connection invites visitors into the heart of the campus and furthermore strengthens the relationship between the building and its surrounding outdoor spaces.
