The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Reported a One Million Gross Job Decrease During the First Quarter of 2022

The first quarter of 2022 saw a net employment gain of 1.5 million jobs.

During the first quarter of 2022, from December 2021 to March 2022, gross job gains from opening and expanding private establishments equated to 8.4 million which is 1.1 million less that the previous quarter. Gross job losses from closing and contracting private establishments were 6.9 million, which is 205,000 more than last quarter.

Overall, the difference between the values for gross job gains and gross job losses for the first quarter of 2022 is a net employment gain of 1.5 million job. This data is from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Business Employment Dynamics (BED). The BED reports gross job gains and losses for all of the U.S. States and collected data from the third month of each quarter.
