LASN takes a look at the 2017 Show Season 
LASN Exhibited at These Shows in 2017 
FenceTech 2017 reported 4,336 attendees and exhibitors on the show floor in Las Vegas, Jan. 17-19. Over $31,000 was raised for the AFA Education Foundation (scholarships), with a truckload of wood raffle donated by Alta Forest Products 
World of Concrete 2017 featured special product and action areas: Producer Center, Material Handling, Concrete Repair & Demolition, World of Masonry, Technology for Construction, Concrete Surfaces & Decorative and Precast.

Nearly 8,000 park and recreation professionals gathered in the Big Easy September Sept. 26-28 for the 2017 NRPA Annual Conference. 
IECA reports the annual conference and expo, this year in Atlanta, had 1500 attendees from 27 countries. Jim Cantore (below), a meteorologist from The Weather Channel, kicked off conference. Craig Zeller, PE, from the EPA was the closing keynote speaker. 
LIGHTFAIR 2017's registration of 27,939 in Philadelphia May 7-11 topped last year's event by 7.4 percent. Registered attendees represented 81 countries. The Texas Nursery & Landscape Association Expo was in Dallas, Aug. 10-12.  
The UC Davis Student ASLA Chapter had a big contingency at the "Alumni Tailgate" gathering during the ASLA Expo in Los Angeles. UC Davis won 3rd place in the "Tailgate Booth Design Competition.' Other participating schools were: Arizona State; Auburn; Cal Poly; Cal State Polytechnic; Clemson; Cornell; Illinois Institute of Technology; Iowa State; Kansas State; Michigan State; Northeastern; Oklahoma State; Penn. State; Rhode Island School of Design; Rutgers; State University of New York; Texas A & M; the universities of Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado at Denver, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin, Utah State and Washington State. 
The Landscape Expo in Long Beach, Calif. (Oct. 4-5), continues to grow and prosper. The roots of the show go back to 1959 and the Southern Calif. Turfgrass Council (SCTC), making it one of the oldest landscape shows in the country. The SCTC venue was the L.A. County Fairgrounds in Pomona (renamed the Fairplex in 1984). The show went by various names, but was bought by Landscape Communications in 2006 (publisher of LASN and Landscape Contractor/Design Build Maintain (LC/DBM). The show moved to Long Beach in 2009 as the Landscape Expo and draws an average of 2,500-3,000 non-exhibitor attendees per year.
