The Texas Nursery and Landscape Association has partnered with the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo to give students involved in the area of landscape studies the opportunity to win scholarships and gain experience. The Landscape Challenge and the Landscape Skillathon are programs that will allow green industry students to showcase their skills as well as proclaim the beauty and value of landscaping to the public.

The Landscape Challenge is a team competition for landscaping students. Participants will put their landscape design skills to the test while also demonstrating their knowledge of plants, plant diseases and plant pests. The challenge is to design small landscaping plots that will undergo several rounds of judging before being displayed for the public during the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. Participants have the chance to earn up to $12,000 in scholarships. The finals for this competition will take place on February 6, 2019 at 8 a.m.

The Landscape Skillathon is a hands-on and interactive competition that challenges participants on their knowledge of landscape design concepts. The challenge includes a written exam, identification stations and in-person skill tests on subjects such as fertilizer information, landscape design, plant identification and more. This program will award up to $10,000 in scholarships to winning students. The finals for this competition will take place on February 6, 2019 at 2 p.m.
