SLDI is currently undergoing pilot testing of the breakthrough system on a residential Greenfield project, a commercial brownfield project, a mixed-use urban revitalization, and a mixed-use rural conservation project.

Sustainable Land Development International (SLDI) announced today that it has completed internal review of the world's first comprehensive sustainable land development best practices system and is currently pilot testing the system on a number of projects throughout the country.

"Historically, widespread inefficiency, error, re-work, and ineffectiveness throughout the planning, design, approval and construction processes regularly results from conflict, both real and perceived, between private and public interests," said Tony Wernke, SLDI president. "Perhaps not surprisingly, environmental, economic, and social results have not been very good as a result. We are thrilled to bring such a breakthrough decision model, information resources and enabling technologies that formally incorporate and balance all of these interests to enable greater results in each of the areas of people, planet and profit."

The SLDI Best Practices System is not just another set of industry standards or certification program. It applies well before and is broader in scope than other standards and certification programs. Wernke describes the system as "descriptive rather than prescriptive." In other words, it guides decision-making throughout the process toward more sustainable results rather than requiring specific practices and/or products be utilized during design and construction, many of which may be inappropriate or ineffective on a specific project or may restrict the development of new and better creative solutions to specific problems.

The model helps align the interests of all stakeholders of a project, from financial to environmental, and aids the entire development process -- from establishing goals through achieving them. It helps project teams increase productivity and enhance trust among professionals throughout the process, and also can help project teams better promote their projects to financial partners and ultimately to customers, get faster entitlements, overcome public opposition, and much, much more.
