Workers are increasingly not a part of unions.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2024 Union Members Summary was recently released and Associated Builders and Contractors' (ABC) analysis of the summary shows a record low 10.03% of respondents belonging to a union.

This comes as nonunion workers comprise a staggering 89.7% of the construction industry which marks an all-time high, up from 89.3% in 2023. According to the ABC Vice President of Regulatory, Labor and State Affairs Ben Brubeck, the association believes that this is due to construction materials ticking up since the pandemic, higher interest rates, a workforce shortage, and anti-competitive policies.
