The Biden administration designated two new National Parks in Texas and Nevada under the 1906 Antiquities Act to meet this administration's goal of protecting 30 percent of public lands by 2030.

The Biden administration designated two National Parks making 514,000 acres off limits to development. The proclamations protect Castner Range, a former military training site in El Paso, Texas, on Fort Bliss, and over 500,000 acres around Avi Kwa Ame, a tribal site, in southern Nevada.

After taking office, the Biden-administration committed to conserving 30 percent of public lands and waters by 2030. The goal was created to protect wildlife and cut back on emissions.

The Washington Post reported in November that the administration is safeguarding the expanse in Nevada by using their power under the 1906 Antiquities Act. This comes after several conservation announcements including Colorado's Camp Hale which safeguards WWII military site that provides a habitat for wildlife, Utah's Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, the site of the 1908 race riot in Springfield, Illinois, and the Castner Range and Avi Kwa Ame.

The Washington Post goes on to say that the designations conserve forests by barring future mining and drilling and allocate new conservation funding from climate law and the infrastructure law.

The Department of the Interior and Department of Defense meanwhile recently announced a partnership with $80 million in investments to preserve land around military installations and improves access to recreation.
