Intro Course for those Interested in Design
by Rebecca Radtke, LASN

According to U.S. News and World Report, there are over 5,800 students enrolled (on average) in landscape architecture programs across the U.S. Growing interest in programs is paramount.

To grow and encourage landscape architecture in the next generation, the Stuckeman School at Penn State is offering two summer camps for its annual Architecture and Landscape Architecture Summer Camp on the University Park campus this year.

The first session is scheduled for July 12-16 and will include introductory hands-on experience in landscape design, art, construction and more. Then, on July 19-23 the second camp with be more advanced for students with some design experience like a drafting class in high school. This option is more geared towards students entering the 11th-grade through recent graduates while the more basic session is for students entering ninth or 10th grade.
Both camps will be rooted in conceptual and theoretical possibilities within the design world. Campers will get an overview of both architecture and landscape architecture.

Assistant Teaching Professor, Brian Peterka told LASN that the overall goal is to have about 90 students between the two camps - which marks a significant uptick from previous years. Peterka continued that this is the first year offering two separate sessions.
