What is the Presto Geo P3 Project Planning?

The Presto Geo P3 portal is a free, web-based suite of geotechnical calculation tools designed to support engineers, landscape architects, contractors, and project owners in completing value engineering project evaluations using geocells, porous pavements, and construction mats.

In addition to calculations, what other features and resources does the P3 portal provide to its users to enhance their project planning and execution abilities?

The Presto Geo P3 portal offers an extensive library of technical documents and product resources, providing users with a wealth of knowledge to support their project planning and implementation. Additionally, the Presto Geo P3 portal features a personalized dashboard, enabling users to create and manage project calculations in an organized and accessible manner. Together, these features provide the necessary tools for efficient, streamlined project execution.

What options are there for porous pavement designs?

There are two main options for porous pavements, relating to the type of surface that is needed. The choice is between a stone surface or a grass surface, as dictated by the project requirements. When aggregate infill is selected, the Presto Geo P3 portal offers calculations for the GEOPAVE® Gravel Pavers and GEOWEB® Soil Stabilization System. When topsoil/vegetation infill is selected, the Presto Geo P3 portal offers calculations for the GEOBLOCK® Grass Pavers, GEOBLOCK®5150 Grass Pavers, and GEOWEB System.

Does the Presto Geo P3 Project Planning Portal offer the ability to have water storage in the porous pavement cross-section?

Yes, water storage information is available for aggregate infill using the GEOPAVE Gravel Pavers or GEOWEB System. The amount of water storage in the cross-section is assumed to be 30% of the total thickness of the pavement. For example, a 6-inch thick pavement would have 2 inches of net vertical storage space. This is based on a typical void ratio of most commercially available aggregates. There is an option to increase the base depth of aggregate underneath the GEOPAVE Gravel Pavers or GEOWEB System beyond that of the minimum required thickness for traffic loading considerations to increase water storage capacity. This option is not available for vegetated systems due to the reduced porosity generally associated with native soils and engineered fills where the voids are occupied by smaller particles.

Are there traffic restrictions over the Presto Geo P3 recommended porous pavements?

In terms of vehicle loadings, the calculators for all porous pavement products allow for loading values from pedestrian walkways to AASHTO H/HS25 highways. This encompasses all standard roadway uses and most of the anticipated vehicle traffic. For specialized vehicles such as heavy equipment vehicles or high ground impact machines users can access the GEOWEB geocell-based porous pavement calculation tool or contact Presto Geosystems directly to obtain support from our technical team. The Presto Geo P3 portal allows for pavements grades up to 10% with no restrictions or anchorage requirements. Steeper pavement grades are not recommended due to potential erosion concerns.
In general, Presto Geosystems recommends that grass surface porous pavements be driven on infrequently, approximately once a week. More frequent vehicle traffic will have a detrimental effect on the health of the vegetation. Applications such as church parking lots, overflow parking at venues, or non-vehicle pathways are good options. For projects with frequent or daily traffic usage, the stone surface systems are recommended. This is great for regular use parking lots, rural roadways, and similar applications.
