Parks and Trails App Launched in North Carolina

The City of Greensboro, Highpoint, and Guilford County have come together to launch the Piedmont Discovery app, which helps users find playgrounds, trails and dog parks.

Developers say Piedmont Discovery allows users to locate indoor recreation areas and facilities as well, and it finds trails based on difficulty and terrain. The app provides directions and a website for more information.

"Nowadays, pretty much everybody has a phone," said Steve Averett, geographic information systems and special projects manager for the City of Greensboro. "So, we just thought this would be a natural place for people to look," he added.

Users will only have to choose between two options and results will come up for them, developers say.

The app is free to download and is available on iPhones and Androids.
