NUVIS has provided extensive landscape architecture design solutions across Saddleback College campus, including campus-wide beautification plans and development of landscape architecture plans for the new ATAS (building, tennis complex, connector road & parking lot), Gateway, and Science Buildings. Landscape design emphasized turf reduction, storm water management and bio filtration to meet MS4 requirements, pedestrian walks, outdoor learning, amphitheater, habitat gardens, bicycle facilities, plazas, permeable paving, slope stabilization, high-efficiency irrigation, and an extensive California native plant palette with colorful low water use adapted plant species. The facility was designed to USGBC LEED Gold Certification standards. Recognition: 2021 ASBA Distinguished Facilities. Photo Credit: Perkins Eastman
Simms/Mann Family Foundation Playground at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles; Los Angeles, CA
The Children's Hospital, Los Angeles campus underwent a creative renovation of a 6,100-square-foot playground designed to accommodate pediatric patient therapy and visiting family recreation. The site includes themed shade structures, natural wood play elements, a trike track, an accessible carousel, sculptures, musical elements, shade trees, synthetic turf, artistic interpretive surfacing, a climbing mound and accompanying slide, pottery, high-efficiency drip irrigation, and colorful low water use sensory planting. Scope included programming, concept alternatives, renderings, construction documents, and construction observation.
Owens Lake; Inyo County, CA
NUVIS was contracted to provide master planning, conceptual designs, simulations, construction documents, and construction observation for multiple parcels totaling more than 3,000 acres. Scope involved dust mitigation and habitat on the Owens Lake playa employing waterless and water-wise solutions. Collaboration with representatives from the historical Paiute tribe led to the inclusion of native plant themes, patterns, and materials. Various land cover strategies included tillage, managed vegetation, standing water, sheet flow, gravel, berm roads, and brine. The project provides interpretive public access trails, creates habitat for native flora and fauna, and celebrates the historical culture and stories using land art. Recognition: 2017 ASLA National Honor Award, 2016 ASLA Southern California Award of Excellence, 2016 Safety Merit Award.
