The National Recreation and Park Association's (NRPA) most recent Park Pulse survey, part of a monthly set of polls about issues related to parks, has found that most Americans agree that park planners and designers should include designated areas that support pollinators such as honey bees and butterflies in parks. 95 percent of people surveyed answered in agreement that special efforts should be made on behalf of pollinators.

By purposefully including pollinator-friendly areas into park design projects, landscape architects can help meet a need that many Americans believe is a problem. Planning hostplants for butterflies and nest sites for bees into a section of a park design can create a welcoming environment for the important insects.

The survey also asked if participants felt confident in their own knowledge and abilities to support pollinators. Sixty-five percent of respondents expressed that they did not know how to personally help pollinators.
