New Secretarial Order Makes Changes to LWCF

President's Actions Fulfill ASLA's Policy Recommendation

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is America's most important program to conserve irreplaceable lands and improve outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the nation.

At the beginning of the Biden's presidency, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) sent the administration policy recommendations to better the landscape architecture industry.

In mid-February, the acting secretary of the interior, Scott de la Vega issue a secretarial order on the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that removes restrictions on federal conservation projects and restored the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP). The ORLP was considered the only competitive LWCF grant program that addressed the recreational difference in underserved urban areas. This secretarial order accomplishes one of the ASLA's policy recommendations towards improving the LWCF.
