SANTA FE RAILYARD TOUR
We couldn't have asked for a better day to travel to Santa Fe for a tour of the Railyard District on Saturday, May 21, 2022. As we gathered at Cafecito and enjoyed fresh pastries and beverages, thanks to the generosity of Solange Serquis, you could tell folks were happy to once again be able to gather in person. By the time we headed off on the walking tour the group numbered about 30 participants.
Faith Okuma reminded us throughout the day that we as Landscape Architects need to step up and take a lead in the environmental crisis we are in, and to do what we can and must do to protect our planet.
Ken Smith shared his insights as part of the design team for the project, and now being able to look back at the design; what worked well, what didn't, the many challenges of such a project, and of course the many successes.
After the tour, we all stopped for lunch and more beverages at Violet Crown Cinema before heading back to our homes. A general topic of discussion over lunch was that we need to do this more often, so think of places that we could/should schedule as a future walking tour of for NMASLA members and let the ExComm know!
And many thanks once again to our Lead Sponsor, Exerplay, for their generous support of this fun event, and to Playwell for their support as well.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
On Friday August 26, the Landscape Architects came out to play (golf, sort of) and have their annual good time at the NMASLA Golf Outing. There were 33 golfers signed up along with 11 lunch guests/sponsors, for a great turnout! After lunch and handing out a bevy of raffle prizes, the following teams won for their various efforts:

FIRST PLACE GOLF: Chris Green, Steve Toler, Pat Conley, Kevin Harwick
SECOND PLACE GOLF: Gilbert Contreras, Joey Alatorre, Greg Miller, Paul Kerr

UNM MLA Mentorship Program Mixer
This September, NMASLA paired up with students from the UNM's Department of Landscape Architecture as part of a revitalized Mentorship Program. Landscape architects from across the state were invited to become a mentor to a student for the current academic year. No prior mentoring experience or licensure was required to become a mentor, just the desire to help the student navigate through some of the issues both in the classroom as well as in the office. The student and mentor were to set the pace of how frequently they met and what activities they participated in. The idea is to show the students what it's like to be a working professional and share some insights through activities such as:
???,??? Visit yours or a colleague's office
???,??? Review current or past projects you or your company designed
???,??? Tour multiple favorite projects in town to discuss, critique and share your thoughts
???,??? Visit UNM George Pearl Hall Studio
???,??? Grab coffee or meet for lunch to discuss each other's projects
???,??? Attend a landscape-related conference (such as Think Trees, Land + Water, etc.)
???,??? Explore the local art scene for inspiration
???,??? Provide your feedback on any design projects your student will have
???,??? Discuss the profession of Landscape Architecture
It's a unique opportunity to connect one-on-one with the landscape architecture students and show them what life is like on the professional side.

NMASLA and UNM students gathered in the Consensus Planning courtyard in downtown Albuquerque for drinks and snacks on beautiful Friday evening September 30 so that the students and mentors could have a casual atmosphere in which to meet each other. In the end, NMASLA paired 17 students and mentors together in what we hope will be a beneficial collaboration.
