Previous to the recent rule change, N.C. commercial applicators making restricted use pesticide applications only needed to record the date and approximate time that the chemicals were used. These records had to be kept for 3 years.
However, the state?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s Pesticide Board recently approved changes requiring that the year, month, date, and the specific time of day when each pesticide application was completed be recorded. Furthermore, each application day must be a separate record, all of which must be kept for three years. If approved by the Rules Review Commission, the changes could go into effect March 1.
It is the opinion of this editor that increasing concerns over public health associated with pesticide use will likely lead to similarly increased regulations else ware. Landscape contractors must be ever vigilant for new legislation in their area and proactive in compliance to keep pesticide use in the landscape a viable proposition.
