NAHB Reports Climb in Building Material Prices

July Marks Another Continuous Month of Climbing Material Prices for Home Builders

The total climb was about 0.4% in July, but total, prices have increased by almost 40% since January of 2020.

During the month of July, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reported another monthly increase in the prices of building materials. This month, total building material costs rose 0.4% and softwood lumber had a 2.3% price increase. This is all according to the Producer Price Index (PPI) report, that measured the increase that has been continuing since January of 2020.

Some of the specific building material products increased more than others, but most have seen a continuous increase since the beginning of the pandemic. Concrete products increased prices by 2.5% and steel mill products actually decreased by 3.7%, whereas gypsum building materials saw no change during the month of July.
