The Landscape Institute has announced the launch of its 2020 Student Travel Award. According to LI, the award aims to support the next generation of landscape professionals and give them a head start in developing their knowledge and practice. The winner gets to travel somewhere in the world to learn about a specific landscape topic or project.

With the dawn of the new decade, LI is asking the next generation of landscape talent to question:

 
• How will the landscape profession's priorities change over the next 10 years?
• What will influence and modify our practice?
• What global issues and challenges will both the built and natural environment need to mitigate in the near future?
• What developing skillset will practitioners need to meet public demand?

As part of their submission, candidates may wish to examine digital placemaking, the future travel of inclusive design, or perhaps radical and innovative global responses to the climate crisis in a country or region of their choice.

The Landscape Institute recently declared a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency. As a result of this, as part of the judging criteria for this year's awards, the Institute will be awarding extra marks for a commitment to sustainable travel.

As a continuation of our 2019 competition, the LI has also reintroduced the UK category once again to encourage domestic travel. In a bid to be more inclusive, the UK award is no longer limited to students enrolled on LI-accredited courses; rather, any student on a relevant landscape, built or natural environment course can enter.
