Leadership Update from NLC President on COVID-19 Response

Funding Needed for Local Cities

"We must find ways to prioritize our own physical and mental health so that we can continue to care for our communities."

The president of the National League of Cities, Joe Buscaino, sent out a leadership update regarding the economic impact COVID-19 is having on local cities and NLC's efforts towards the need for emergency funding. Together with the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), a survey was released showing the loss of revenue municipalities are anticipating due to the pandemic and according to Buscaino, they are seeing progress as the media starts to share this information.

"By raising our voices in the media, we are bolstering our federal advocacy efforts."

Buscaino then writes of a joint letter between NLC, USCM and the National Association of Counties sent to President Trump and Congressional leadership supporting $250 billion in funding for all local governments.

"We will continue our push for direct funding to all municipalities in the days and weeks to come. I hope you'll join us by calling on your own members of Congress."
