2019 Association Report

The members of the 2019-2020 Fellowship cohort are: Hans Baumann, Pierre B??(C)langer, Elizabeth Camuti, Diana Fernandez, Jeffrey Hou, Nicholas Jabs
Upon her passing, a $25,000 research grant was launched to honor the distinguished 40-year career of Debra Mitchell that included 26 years at SmithGroupJJR, where she served as a senior vice president and national design leader.
The LAF Medal, the foundation's highest honor was awarded to Joseph E. Brown, FASLA, who received his MLA from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and served as the CEO of landscape architecture firm EDAW until 2005.

Profile: Through research, scholarships and leadership, LAF works to increase the capacity, influence, and impact of landscape architects to create a more sustainable, just, and resilient future.

LAF released a free guidebook entitled Evaluating Landscape Performance: A Guidebook for Metrics and Methods Selection. At their symposium in June, the foundation presented the seven winning projects from their 2018-2019 Fellowship for Innovation + Leadership cohort. The LAF Founders' Award went to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The Climate Positive Design Challenge was launched by LAF Fellow, Pamela Conrad, to encourage landscape architects to go beyond carbon neutral by designing projects that sequester more carbon than they emit. LAF conducted their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Survey for landscape architects and designers, and shared a summary of the results at the 2019 ASLA Conference in San Diego in November. And the foundation will announce the selections of $25,000, 2020-2021 LAF Fellowships for Innovation and Leadership in January.
