The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) has announced the 2023 winners of the LAF Medal and the LAF Founders' Award, both of which are to be presented on June 15th in Washington D.C. at the LAF Awards Dinner. The awards were launched in 2016 along with the LAF's 50th anniversary and honor those landscape architects and organizations that have made large contributions towards the LAF's goal of supporting the preservation, improvement, and enhancement of the environment.

 
The two winners of the awards are Randolph Hester, professor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, who won the LAF Medal, and the San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), who won the LAF Founders' Award.

The LAF Medal and Founders' Award Committee said the following about the two winners:
"Randy has employed landscape solutions to save endangered species and cultures, and to redistribute resources and power."

"SPUR tackles challenging topics that have regional impacts and that are difficult for an individual municipality to resolve on its own."
