The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) has announced the winners of the 2019 LAF Medal and the Founders' Award. These annual awards honor individuals and organizations that have contributed to the landscape architectural field or have made a positive impact on the environment. The LAF Founders' Award will go to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Founded by former first lady Lady Bird Johnson in 1982 at the University of Texas at Austin, the center serves as the official state garden and arboretum of Texas. It has earned the award by inspiring the conservation and use of native plants in garden design through its outreach programs and research projects.The LAF Medal will be awarded to Joseph E. Brown, FASLA, for his career of service and leadership as a landscape architect. Brown received his MLA from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and served as the CEO of landscape architecture firm EDAW until 2005. The awards will be presented to the recipients at the LAF Awards Dinner on June 13 in Washington D.C.
