by Staff

Joe James is going to write and illustrate a graphic novel in which landscape architects play main roles in the story.

One of six of the members of the Landscape Architecture Foundation's (LAF) Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership, Joe James has decided to use the $25,000 that the LAF has provided him with to create a graphic novel. This project has the express purpose of introducing the next generation of landscape architects to the profession in a natural, interesting, and personal way.

An established landscape architect, James has had an amateur passion for comics and drawing that were actually the original impetus for his attraction towards landscape architecture in the first place. James explained his reasoning for the direction he is taking with his project, "The material that's out there about landscape architecture for kids is well done, but it's geared toward those that are already looking for it. But people don't find this profession because they're looking for it. They find it through happenstance. So, is it possible to have them find it at an earlier age? We'll see where my project goes."
