Alta Riverwalk and Cumberland River Greenway Trailhead, Nashville, TN
Alta Riverwalk, located in Nashville's Metro Center, is a multi-family development designed to reflect the character of historic factories along the Cumberland riverfront. Amenities in the unique outdoor living spaces are accented with industrial-themed brick and steel elements and include features such as a golf simulator with putting green, outdoor movie screen and viewing area, hammock garden, gaming lawn, outdoor seating areas with firepits, grills and TVs, an outdoor fitness area with cross-fit gym, and a resort-style pool. To further draw residents outside, our landscape architects designed a makeover to the nearby Cumberland River Greenway trailhead and provided enhanced pedestrian connectivity to the trailhead from the development and surrounding areas.

Handy Park, Memphis, TN
In 2018, Kimley-Horn and brg3s architects were selected as the Handy Park Design Challenge winners by the Downtown Memphis Commission. The park was viewed as an underutilized and unusable civic space asset on historic Beale Street where impromptu blues jam sessions were regularly held. Realizing the space's importance and potential, the Commission issued the design challenge to receive feedback and design ideas for local architects and designers. Kimley-Horn and brg3s collaborated to create the master plan vision for this civic space and developed 3D images to illustrate how the improvements would revitalize the park.

With phase one of implementation completed in May 2021, Handy Park is now a transparent civic space extending from Beale Street and serving as a dynamic music venue, event space, and flexible civic space for events and activities year-round. The new park includes a central and flexible open plaza anchored by existing businesses, a sloped lawn seating area, tree plantings, a robust lighting package, a unique access-control art wall and fencing solution, and a more prominent home for the statue of the park's namesake, Mr. W.C. Handy. The renovated park has better access-control solutions, enhances the concert-goer experience, and offers a flexible civic space with a distinctive local atmosphere in the heart of downtown Memphis.

Vintage Station North Transit-oriented Development, Mt. Juliet, TN
Vintage Station North is Middle Tennessee's first true transit-oriented development with 220 residential units located directly on the Music City Star line at the Mt. Juliet station. The development includes traditional multi-family units, townhomes, ground-floor office suites, a coffee shop, and a retail building on Mt. Juliet Road. In addition to the civil engineering services provided by our team, our landscape architects developed landscape and hardscape designs for site amenities, including a swimming pool with tanning ledge, grilling area, outdoor televisions and fireplace, active courtyard between the two large buildings, rooftop deck, and dog park.

North Memphis Greenline, Memphis, TN
The Community Redevelopment Agency selected Kimley-Horn to design the North Memphis Greenline and Linear Park, which is funded by the Uptown TIF District. The 2,700-foot pathway begins at Hickory Avenue and travels along former Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way next to the newly constructed Grind City Brewery. The pedestrian route will feature a 175-foot bridge, event lawn, fitness station, trailheads, and pedestrian tunnel with an LED-lighted mural wall.
