Presentation at the 2019 U.S Play Coalition's Annual Play Conference

 
This annual conference brought together leading experts and leaders in "PLAY FOR LIFE," which explored play across the lifespan. IPEMA and the Voice of Play was once again a sponsor and we were thrilled to do a presentation with Olga Jarrett, Ph.D. and Lynn Campanella of Playocracy Inc. The presentation, "Why Play Matters: The State of Recess in North America" explored research and real examples of why recess is critical for the development of physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills in children. While progress has been made, there is still work to be done to keep recess part of the curriculum. IPEMA presented its 2018 research of teachers surveyed to gain their perspectives on the importance of recess.

Promoting Certification

Did you catch our ad in the August issue of LASN? We dove into IPEMA certification. IPEMA certifies play equipment and surfacing materials to CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and ASTM International standards. IPEMA certified playground equipment means that a manufacturer's testing facility, procedures and results have been validated by a third-party accredited laboratory to the applicable North American Standards CSA Z614 and ASTM F1487. Also, IPEMA certified playground surfacing means that surfacing material has been tested by a third-party accredited laboratory per ASTM F1292 to establish the HIC and Gmax for the specific fall height and to other relevant surfacing-related ASTM standards (F2075 and F3012).

Selecting and installing IPEMA certified play equipment and surfacing provides third-party validation that the products meet or exceed the applicable safety standards.
