Assistant Horticulture Professor at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Carl Bower Jr, presented a live and recorded webinar to professionals from across the country to learn about native planting best practices.

Bower discussed the misconceptions surrounding native plants and how client's neighbors and HOAs alike need to be educated about the "cue to care" and how this style of planting can attract welcome visitors like pollinators.

He went on to give examples of traditional and native plantings and how there can be a happy medium that can be both aesthetically pleasing and manageable with the proper knowledge. Bower also gave practical design principles that can be implemented into each and every design professional's arsenal.

Carl is an assistant professor of horticulture at Pennsylvania College of Technology, teaching there for 18 years in their Landscape/Plant Production program. A graduate of the program, and now back there teaching after many years in the industry, Carl has many years designing landscapes in central PA, and managing insects and diseases. He is passionate about plants, sustainable design, and pest management. His success is measured by his students and their success in the industry. He received the Excellence in Teaching award at the college and regularly speaks to garden clubs and other garden organizations sharing his passion.
