The House approved a $3.5 trillion bipartisan budget bill on August 24, 2021 in a 220-212 party vote, breaking the stalemate.

The vote allows Democrats the ability to write and approve a spending package that would encompass environmental, family, and education issues without Republican support while also moving the infrastructure plan approved by the Senate through the House and to the President's desk. This bill package includes major climate legislation that would fight climate change events like drought and fires.

 

House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, in a statement said that she is, "committing to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill by September 27."

Senate Majority Leader, Charles Schumer said in a "Dear Colleague" letter that the "infrastructure bill would reduce carbon emissions to approximately 45 percent below 2005 levels by 2030."

Pelosi tied the two bills together in order to get it passed because centrists think the $3.5 trillion bill is too big and progressives believe the $1 trillion infrastructure bill is too small would support the two.
