Homes For Troops

Each of the specially designed homes are equipped with over 40 ADA Compliant adaptions. Construction has not yet begun on the homes however there will be three options, the Freedom, Patriot and the American Dream.

Giving back to a community or industry can take many avenues and forms, provided companies are open-mined and truly care about making the world a better place. In the case of BrightView Design Group, that simply meant looking at ways its Landscape Architecture team could deliver design services to meet the admirable endeavors of Homes For Our Troops, an organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 veterans to enable them to rebuild their lives.

BrightView Design Group provided a conceptual landscape plan pro-bono to the organization for a residential project in Northern California. It's affiliated company, BrightView Landscape Development, is also installing the landscape at no cost. The BrightView teams also worked closely with a number of companies to procure materials such as controllers or irrigation heads, and services for free or at cost to help bring this project to fruition.
The 2,960-square-foot, single-family home will be built on a two-acre lot in Sacramento's Orangevale community, near Folsom Lake. The design team worked to create a landscape concept and plan that includes a native and adaptive plant palette that is water-friendly, as well as maintenance-friendly, since the veteran the home is being built for is confined to a wheelchair.
The construction drawings produced by BrightView are currently under review by the county, though plans to initiate work are expected to commence shortly. Once the home is built, it is being given to a veteran who is single and does not have a family of his own. He plans to re-donate the house back to Homes For Our Troops in the future.
The landscape is proposed to include a wide variety of species such as Aloe vanbalenii, Agave Moonshine, Anigozanthos Tequila Sunrise, Arbutus unedo Compacta, Asclepias speciosa, Cistanthe grandiflora, Destuca rubra Molate, Festuca mairei, Hemerocallis Red, Heteromeles arbutifolio, Lavandula angusifolia, Lavandula stoechas, Muhlenbergia capillaris Regal Mist, Ophiopogon japonicus, Pennisetum m. Red Bunny Tails, Phlomis fruiticosa, Salvia chamaedryoides, Senecio serpens, Westringia Mundi, and so many more.
BrightView is proud to support those who have given much to the country and welcomed the opportunity to give back to a community in which it serves.
