Arbor Enterprises, Inc. became involved with the care and ongoing maintenance of the Joe Wagner Post 7313 in Pittsboro, N.C., after owner Paige Moody's father-in-law, Morton Matheny, asked for help. Matheny, a Vietnam Marine Corps Veteran, joined the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization and volunteered to help coordinate the upgrades to the post, inside and out. The building was in need of structural repairs, as well as a total aesthetic reboot.
Moody shares that she is thankful for the opportunity to give back and honored to be involved in such a worthwhile project. Andy Cochran, commander of Joe Wagner Post 7313, said in a message to Moody, "We thank Arbor Enterprises for their continued support of our post and its image, and for promoting the virtue of giving back to the community and our Veterans. The improvements, addition to the gardens and maintenance of our landscaping are noticed by our guests, members and senior leadership. Your donation of time, resources and capital are well appreciated."Moody and the rest of the crew at Arbor Enterprises hopes that this gesture will inspire more landscape contractors to take care of the veterans in their communities. The VFW funds the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service memorials, and in 2005 became the first veterans' organization to contribute to building the Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial, which opened in November 2010.
