Felsted, Frederick Law Olmsted's Maine summer home, is now available for short-term stays on vacation rental platform VRBO. Located on the southwestern tip of Deer Isle, an island off the coast of central Maine, Felsted is a four-acre, private, beach-front estate complete with eight bedrooms that sleep up to twelve people. The 127-year-old home, which was built in 1897 by architect William Ralph Emerson, retains some of its features from the time Olmsted lived on the property while boasting modern renovations in the kitchen and bathroom areas. After Olmsted died, Felsted served as a summer hotel in the mid-1900s and then as a movie set for two films in the 90s and early 2000s. The property is privately owned and is now open to rentals after being closed off for many years.
