Raymond Jungles, Inc. (RJI), a landscape architecture firm based in Coconut Grove, Florida, donated their time and expertise to the development and maintenance of Grove Studio Garden, which was completed in 2018. The space sits on the RJI property and spills out past the half-acre lot onto the surrounding public right-of-way. In 2019, the project won the Award of Merit from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Florida Chapter. This site plan shows the total footprint

In the heart of Coconut Grove, Florida, a lush botanical oasis stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful landscape design and a landscape architect's commitment to giving back to the community. This vibrant public garden is the work of Raymond Jungles, a renowned Landscape Architect whose designs are rooted in simplicity, timelessness, and a profound respect for biodiversity.

Nestled on a half-acre lot, Raymond Jungles Inc.'s (RJI) Grove Studio Garden extends beyond its property lines, spilling out into the surrounding public right-of-way and establishing a verdant gateway into the neighborhood. The garden is a diverse planting of native greenery composed of over 124 species. Here, residents can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in a world of lush greenery, vibrant blooms, and the soothing sounds of nature.

The design team's vision for this space was not just to create a beautiful studio garden but to also offer a gift to the community he calls home. Throughout the year, the streetscape comes alive with flowering tree canopies and fragrant blooms, showcasing the rich biodiversity of South Florida's native flora. Pollinators flutter, birds sing, and squirrels play, creating a harmonious ecosystem that celebrates the region's natural heritage.

But this garden is more than just a visual treat; it's a space designed for connection and community-building. The public garden areas provide improved pedestrian circulation, shade, color, and fragrance, creating an inviting environment for locals to walk their dogs, push strollers, or simply take a moment to bask in the beauty of nature. Pedestrian-friendly paths wind through the lush foliage, inviting visitors to linger and engage with one another amidst the tranquility of nature.

The team takes great pride in maintaining this public oasis, ensuring that it remains a welcoming and well-tended sanctuary for all. Passersby may even encounter Raymond Jungles himself tending to the plants alongside his son Ben, reflecting the multi-generational commitment to enriching the Grove's public spaces. The team also regularly maintains the garden, removing litter and graffiti while replenishing amenities like dog waste stations.

Located at the intersection of Aviation and 27th Avenues, the Grove Studio Garden stands as a shining example of their commitment to creating sustainable, ecologically conscious landscapes that enrich the lives of those who experience them. It is a gift to the residents of Coconut Grove, a testament to the transformative power of landscape architecture, and a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating the natural world within our urban environments.

As seen in LASN magazine, February 2025.
